The First Step Toward Better Brain Health Is your brain not working as well as it used to? Do you feel unlike yourself, even if you can't quite put your finger on how or why? Do you struggle with cognitive or memory issues? If you answer yes to any of these questions, we invite you to try Discovery Day.
Discovery Day at NeuroHealth is not a quick checkup. It's the first step in your neurorehabilitation – an innovative examination that provides an assessment of your brain health so you can begin your journey toward wellness with much greater clarity, intention, and personalized direction.
How We Assess Brain Health To understand your brain health, we look at several biomarkers – measurable bodily characteristics (such as blood pressure or body temperature) that help us connect the dots between the current status of your brain, body, and life experience.
Our assessment of brain health includes:
A comprehensive family and personal history evaluation, which may include a review of prior diagnostic tests and lab work
A comprehensive neurological examination, to assess the function of your nerves, brain, and muscles
A cognitive test using EQ, a mobile brain assessment application
A RightEye eye movement tracking assessment
Dynamic posture analysis to assess balance and proprioception (the sense of body position)
Interactive metronome testing to evaluate mental and physical timing abilities
Based on the results of these assessments, our functional neurology team will present you with a summary of your brain health. With your feedback and personal goals in mind, we'll then implement research-backed and individualized treatments that can help you optimize your cognition.
What to Expect on Discovery Day Because Discovery Day involves several diagnostic tests, you can expect your appointment to be three to four hours. To make the most of your time with us and to help your appointment go smoothly, please:
Get a good night's sleep the night before
Arrive on time (check your route, if you're traveling to our office from outside Indianapolis)
Eat a healthy breakfast, stay well-hydrated throughout the day, and bring a healthy lunch or snack with you. Wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes (no flip-flops, please)
Bring copies of your medical records, including a list of your medications and any results of diagnostic procedures
Refrain from wearing eye makeup, as it can interfere with testing
Feel free to bring a pen and paper to jot down questions or bits of information you'd like to refer back to (we'll also give you educational handouts and information to take home).
